Backyard
Bard
So you’ve heard about the growing popularity of this weird game of make-believe with dice. And you’ve been thinking about trying it out. Or maybe you are a seasoned player, but your DM is exhausted from spending all that time prepping, and you don’t think he’s that good at drawing maps anyway. Maybe you want a way to spend a night with your friends without going to the bar yet again. You’re a nerd, but you like to party. Hi. My name is Russell Boyd, and I am not a fan of reality.
Frequently Asked Questions

In short, time. Running a campaign takes many, many hours outside of actually sitting at the table. Even if you are using a published adventure, you must get this world inside your head, get to know the characters like they were real people, and be ready for exactly what the monsters will do when you meet them. Most people don’t have time for that.
And even if you do, do you own the books? Each one is between $25 and $50. The three core rulebooks alone are somewhere around 300 pages each. And this is all before you get the maps, dice, miniatures, and terrain that will make your story much richer. If you decide to go virtual, you’ll need a subscription to a quality virtual tabletop and have all the maps and environments prepared to tell the story you’re trying to tell.

Awesome. I would be honored to be a part of your humble DM beginnings.

Think about how much you and three or four of your friends spend on a night out. For $200 per session, you get a 3-4 hour session of a published adventure. For $300 per session, I can WRITE YOU AN ORIGINAL CAMPAIGN, which will be tailored to your characters and what you think is fun.
Why D&D
There are many ways that people like to take a break from real life and live in a fantasy world for a minute. Sports. Reality shows. Movies, shows, books. Going outside. Sleep. All of these have their time, place, and merit. But I believe that Dungeons & Dragons offers something these others do not.
It’s guided storytelling, a chance to be whoever you want to be while sitting at a table, real or virtual, with either brand new or old friends and seeing where the adventure takes you. There are moments and memories that you cannot find anywhere else.
